Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
